Marty Ascolese: Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar
Music has been a part of Marty's life since his youth. At the age of 13 he began playing drums and acoustic guitar when he learned an early lesson about paying dues. His self-taught music landed him his first gig as a founding member of the old #7 band by the time he was 15, as drummer & vocalist. In the 80s Marty became the front man for the LC Smith band. When family responsibilities took over his time, Marty chose to put his music on the back burner for a while.
A reunion with his long time friends & musicians in the late 90s led to the start of the "Good The Bad& The Ugly", a cover band that rocked the tri-state area for years. When they finally dissolved, Marty played consecutively with Oblivious and Contagious. After the tragic loss of the Oblivious bass player, Marty turned his focus to his own music. He left both bands to record his long time coming album "My turn to drive".
After inviting guitarist Dave Atkinson to play a few guitar tracks, together they formed "Haywyre". As Haywyre's front man, Marty is writing, composing, singing and playing acoustic and electric guitars. Marty prefers Roland jazz chorus amp, Ibanez, Guild acoustic guitars and Fender, Epiphone electric guitars. Some of Marty's early influences include, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Neil Young, The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet.

Dave Atkinson: Lead Guitar, Vocals
Growing up in the Peekskill area of Westchester, he began playing guitar in the mid 70's just out of high school. Some of Dave's early musical influences include Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Robin Trower and Led Zepplin to mention a few.
In the 80's Dave played in many Westchester bands such as Altered States, Future Shock, Vanishing Point. Dave's main guitar of choice is a Fender Strat but every once in a while you might see him play a Gibson or an Ovation acoustic. Dave always has a pair of Marshall amps behind him producing that massive classic Marshall sound.
Later on Dave's band Freight Train came to be, earning their name from his high energy style of playing along with his massive sound that could stop a train dead in its tracks. Some of Dave's more recent endeavors include 3 unreleased solo albums, the first being "At the turn of the century" (1999) followed by "Total Guitar" (2001) and finally "Freight Train" (2002) Freight Train evolved into a solo rock & roll show that gained the attention and support of Under Cover Records for a short time. In 2003 Dave formed the Orange County rock band Freight Train playing shows mostly in Orange & Sullivan Counties. In 2005 Dave played briefly with "Diamond in the Rough" playing many local shows including the 2005 Woodstock reunion in Bethel NY.
Currently Dave is playing with Haywyre, one of the Hudson Valleys leading rock & roll bands. Located at Pleasant View Farms in Montgomery New York. Entertaining audiences in clubs, bars, outdoor and corporate events from Rochester to Staten Island, or just rocking with Haywyre is where you would look to find Dave these days.

Alden M. Sells: Bass, Lead & Backing Vocals
Born in Miami, FL. and raised in Milwaukee, Wis., Alden started his musical career in the 4th grade playing violin, butchering Mary Had A Little Lamb with the best of them. More interested in sports as a youth, Alden put down the violin by 5th grade - but in the late 60’s and early 70’s things were happening culturally, politically and nationally with the music scene in America, and we watched it in our homes every evening. Alden was listening and humming along, but found himself searching for something different… and then he heard Frank Zappa. Zappa was totally unique and serious, but more importantly Zappa could write ridiculously complicated music and play incredible guitar. Alden was instantly hooked, and thus started his quest, journey and appreciation with music that has continued for over 40 years with some 2500 gigs mainly throughout the Northeast.
In the mid 80’s Alden moved to the New Paltz area and co-founded his first band, The Kooks. The band exploded on the New Paltz - Woodstock - NYC scene playing an eclectic fusion folk mix of Texas swing, blue grass, country blues, rock and folk. Appreciating immediate success, the band played from Maine to Florida; opening for, and/or jamming with the likes of Rick Derringer, REM, Rick Danko, Ozzie Osbourne’s band, Eddie Kirkland and Robbie Dupree - as well as many other strong regional acts. Success was just around the corner…
then the band broke up.
In the late 80’s early 90’s Alden switched gears and fell into a 3 piece power trio called the Oupatients - playing Hendrix, Trower, Cream, SRV and the like. This was a total musical re-direction and demanded that Alden “learn” his bass guitar in a stripped down 3 piece format. There’s no hiding in a 3 piece, and Alden while studying music and wood shedding his bass, started crafting his song writing techniques. With the Outpatients, Alden co-wrote and co-produced two CDs of original material… then the band broke up.
From the mid 90’s and for 12 years in between Alden studied music, took piano lessons and continued to write original material, while singing lead & backing vocals and playing bass for a “white boy blues band” called Hoo Doo Dat. This band played everything from the Allman Brothers complete Live At The Fillmore album to various Frank Zappa tunes, and everything else in between from Paul Butterfield, Johnny Winter, George Thorogood and Gov’t Mule - this was a premier jam band with great musicians, and Alden was in heaven - playing the material of Frank Zappa that had inspired him so long ago. Then the band broke up…
From roughly 2008 to 2012, Alden played bass in the Poughkeepsie based classic rock band, Madd Dog. Madd Dog had been a successful classic rock band in the Hudson Valley for over 10 years, and had appreciated much success and admiration from a loyal fan base in the greater Hudson Valley Region. Sadly, and so often the case in bands with 4 individuals with strong personalities… the band broke up.
Also in this time period, Alden performed on many occasions with the Hudson River Boys - a band featuring resonator guitars (dobro) and slide style lap guitars, playing traditional American folk, blues and jazz standards with his upright bass - further crafting his style and developing his ear for more cerebral musical material.
Now Alden has found a new home with new friends and great players in Haywyre! Aldens’ musical influences are Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, CCR, Rolling Stones, Savoy Brown, Johnny Winter, Warren Haines, Allman Bros. Band, BB King, Hank Williams, Spike Jones, Bonzo Dog Band, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Johnny Cash, Doc Watson, George Jones, John Prine, Hot Tuna, Rev. Gary Davis, Dan Hicks and The Band - just to name a few…
